Raina-Dhoni pair set new record
June 26, 2008

Following are the statistical highlights of the Asia Cup Group B match between India and Hong Kong in Karachi on Wednesday:

# India's 256-run win is the biggest ever in the Asia Cup history, eclipsing Pakistan's 233-run triumph over Bangladesh in Dhaka on June 2, 2000.

# India's 256-run triumph is their second biggest in ODIs -- their best being against Bermuda by 257 runs at Port of Spain in the 2007 World Cup.

# India's total of 374 for four in 50 overs against Hong Kong was their first ever total of 300-plus in the Asia Cup, eclipsing their 271 for six against Sri Lanka [Images] in Colombo on July 27, 2004.

# India's 374-4 was their third highest total in One-day Internationals. Their score of 413-5 against Bermuda at Port of Spain in the 2007 World Cup and 376-2 against New Zealand [Images] in Hyderabad on November 8, 1999 are their top two scores in one-dayers.

# India's 374-4 is also the highest ODI score by any team on Pakistani soil, surpassing the 360-4 made by West Indies [Images] against Sri Lanka in Karachi on October 13, 1987.

# India's 374-4 is now the highest innings totals in the Asia Cup, surpassing Sri Lanka's 357-9 against Bangladesh in Lahore [Images] on Wednesday.

# Suresh Raina (101 off 68 balls) posted his maiden hundred in ODIs.

# Raina's 66-ball century is the second fastest by an Indian batsman in ODIs, next only to Mohammad Azharuddin's 62-ball hundred against New Zealand at Baroda on December 17, 1988.

# Virender Sehwag's [Images] 78 off 44 balls is his third fifty in his last four innings -- 89 vs Pakistan in Dhaka on June 10,
2008, followed by 59 vs Bangladesh in Dhaka on June 12.

# Gautam Gambhir [Images] hit his ninth fifty in ODIs and his first against Hong Kong.

# Mahendra Singh Dhoni [Images] (109 not out off 96 balls) registered his fourth century in ODIs -- his first as captain.

# Dhoni's innings strike rate of 113.54 is the slowest of his four centuries.

# Dhoni's previous highest as captain was 88 not out against Sri Lanka in the Commonwealth Bank tri-series at Brisbane on February 5, 2008.

# With this century, Dhoni has averaged 328 in Pakistan -- 328 runs in five innings (four times not out), including one century and three fifties.

# Dhoni has become the second Indian captain to register a hundred in the Asia Cup. Sourav Ganguly [Images] (135 not out vs Bangladesh in Dhaka on May 30, 2000) was the first Indian skipper to achieve the feat.

# The 166-run fourth wicket partnership between Raina and Dhoni is a new record in the Asia Cup, obliterating the 139 between Aravinda de Silva and Arjuna Ranatunga for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh at Kolkata on December 31,1990.

# Dhoni and Raina gave the first instance of two centuries in same innings for India in Asia Cup. Overall, this is the third instance of two centuries in the same Asia Cup innings -- Pakistan has provided two such instances earlier.

# Piyush Chawla [Images] (4 for 23) produced his career-best bowling performance, eclipsing his 4 for 40 against Pakistan in Dhaka on June 10, 2008.

# Dhoni, for the second time in his career, has stumped three batsmen in an innings -- his first instance being for Asian XI vs African XI at Chennai on June 10, 2007.

# Dhoni (3 stumpings and 1 catch) became the first Indian wicketkeeper to effect four dismissals in an innings in the Asia Cup.
