Statistical highlights of Day 1 in the second Test between India and Australia, in Sydney, on Wednesday.

# Adam Gilchrist [Images] emulated Rahul Dravid's [Images] feat of appearing in most consecutive Tests (94) since making his debut. After his Test debut against Pakistan at Brisbane on November 5,1999, Gilchrist has played 94 games in a row.

# Gilchrist's 94 Test appearances in succession for Australia since making his debut is a record by any player for one country, eclipsing Dravid's 93 consecutive appearances for India. Actually, Dravid had played one Test for World XI at Sydney in 2005-06 during his sequence of 94 Tests.

#  Phil Jaques got his first duck in Test cricket and missed becoming the fourth player to record seven successive fifties, held jointly by Everton Weekes (WI), Andy Flower (Zim.) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul [Images] (WI).

# Andrew Symonds [Images] (137 not out) posted his second Test century -- his career-best is 156 against England [Images] at MCG in 2006/07.

# Symonds's previous highest at SCG was 48 against England in 2006-07, while his previous best against India was 44 in the Melbourne Test last week.

# Brad Hogg [Images] (79) posted his career-best score -- his maiden fifty, eclipsing his previous highest of 35 not out against India at Melbourne last week.

# The seventh wicket partnership of 173 between Andrew Symonds and Brad Hogg is an Australian record against India, eclipsing the 108 between Steve Waugh and Shane Warne [Images] at Adelaide in 1999-00.

# The aforesaid stand is also a seventh wicket record at SCG, obliterating the 160 between Richie Benaud and Graham McKenzie for Australia against South Africa in 1963-64.

# Ricky Ponting's [Images] 39th fifty in Tests is his fifth against India.

# Ponting extended his record for most runs at SCG to 1281 at an average of 80.06, including five centuries and five fifties in 13 Tests.

# Both Harbhajan and Anil Kumble [Images] have now dismissed Ponting seven times. Only England's Darren Gough has dismissed him eight times -- most times any bowler has dismissed Ponting.

# Adam Gilchrist, after posting 104 at Bangalore in 2004-05, is without a fifty in his last ten innings against India.

# Sachin Tendulkar [Images], for the fourth time in his career, has held 3 catches in an innings -- his previous three instances being against Pakistan at Karachi in 2005-06; vs West Indies [Images] at Bridgetown in 1996-97 and vs. New Zealand [Images] at Bangalore in 1995-96.

# Australia's 376 for 7 is the second highest score in a day's play against India, next only to their 400 for five on the first day of the 2003-04 Adelaide Test.

# Australia's aforesaid total is also the second highest score in a day's play at SCG, next only to their 494 for 6 against South Africa on the first day of the 1910-11 Test.

# Rudra Pratap Singh (4/108) produced his best bowling performance against Australia, bettering his 1 for 50 at Melbourne last week.

# For the third time in his career, R P Singh claimed 4 wickets in an innings -- his previous two instances being 5 for 59 vs. England at Lord's in 2007 and 4 for 89 against Pakistan at Faisalabad in 2005-06.
