Mumbai skittled out an inexperienced Punjab batting line-up for 202 in their first innings before rattling up 90 for 1 in reply, at stumps on the first day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Division Group A match in Mumbai on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, Punjab slumped to 43 for 4 before a 95-run partnership between top scorer Ankur Kakkar (71) and wicketkeeper Uday Kaul (29) revived the innings, at the Brabourne stadium.

After their departure in close succession, there was hardly any resistance from the Punjab batsmen, barring Chandan Madan's knock of 29, before the visitors were dismissed in just under five hours on a grassy wicket with some bounce.

Strongly built left-arm pacer Rahil Shaikh, playing in only his second first class match after making his debut in Mumbai's previous league match against Orissa at Cuttack, led the demolition job with a haul of four for 50.

He was well-supported by Usman Malvi, Rajesh Verma and Abhishek Nayar, playing his first match after a long gap, who took two wickets apiece.

Punjab's lanky pacer Amanpreet Singh put up an impressive new ball display when Mumbai began their reply and accounted for Test discard and home team skipper Wasim Jaffer [Images].

Later, in-form Ajinkya Rahane (53 off 47 balls with nine fours) and make-shift opener Vinayak Samant (35) saw Mumbai through to close of play without being separated.

Parab's hits unbeaten ton for Baroda

Satyajit Parab struck his first hundred of the season to put Baroda in a commanding position at 201 for 1 at stumps one Day 1 of their crucial Ranji Trophy Super League Group 'B' match against Andhra Pradesh in Vadodara on Thursday.

Parab (108 not out) and Azhar Bilkhia (65 not out) dominated the Andhra bowlers to put up an unbeaten 136 runs for the second wicket.

Earlier, after opting to bat, skipper Conor Williams and Parab batted cautiously to lay the foundation for Baroda's innings. The duo stitched together 65 runs for the opening wicket before Williams was caught by Prabhu Kiran off the bowling off left-arm medium pacer Atchuti Rao.

The Baroda captain scored a patient 23 off 114 balls, inclusive of three boundaries.

In his marathon 271-ball knock, Parab found the fence 12 times, while Bilkhia hit six fours en route to his 65, which came off 159 balls.

In search of a breakthrough, Andhra skipper Y Gnaneswara Rao tried as many as five bowlers, but his efforts provided little success, with Rao picking up the lone wicket to fall.

Karthik, Mukund hit tons for TN

Centuries by captain Dinesh Karthik [Images] (113) and Abhinav Mukund (batting 129) and their 210-run stand for the third wicket helped Tamil Nadu score 295 for 4 at close in their first innings against Railways on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Super League Group B match in Chennai on Thursday.

Karthik and Mukund came together at the crease after Tamil Nadu were 9 for 2 and took the attack to the opposition. Their 100-run partnership came off 172 balls. However, both survived a chance each before Karthik was trapped in front by spinner Kulamani Parida, who ended the day with a couple of wickets, conceding 48 runs off 16 overs.

Karthik hit 15 fours in his 190-ball knock. He was dropped by Sanjay Bangar at silly point off Parida on 88 and the team score 175 for two.

Mukund survived when V Cheluraj dropped an easy catch at slip off the bowling of medium-pacer Anureet Singh. He was on 127 and Tamil Nadu 291 for four.

When on 98, Mukund surpassed the 1000-run mark in Ranji Trophy in his second season at the national championship.

Stylish left-hand batsman S Vidyuth was out to a bat-pad catch by Sanjay Bangar off Parida. He was declared out by the third umpire.

At close, Mukund (129) and S Suresh Kumar (27) were at the crease.

Rajasthan batsmen keep Delhi [Images] at bay

Half centuries by opener Vinit Saxena and Kuldeep Singh helped Rajasthan post 197 for 2 against defending champions Delhi in the Ranji Trophy Super League Group A match at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur [Images] on Thursday.

The visitors, needing an outright victory to secure a passage to the next round of the competition, got an early breakthrough when Parminder Singh Awana dismissed Vinod Chanwaria for 12.

Vinit was then joined by Kuldeep and the duo kept the Delhi bowlers at bay in a 138-run partnership.

Vinit was unlucky to be run out when on 71 but Kuldeep, unbeaten on 71, and skipper Venugopal Rao (18) saw the innings till the end.

Vineet needed 203 balls for his 71 after completing his half century off 141 balls, inclusive of nine boundaries.

He however, failed to beat a throw from P Sangwan and was run-out.

Kuldeep played cautiously, scoring 71 off 214 balls.

Delhi, missing the services of national team players Virender Sehwag [Images],

Gautam Gambhir [Images] and Ishant Sharma, looked jaded and the bowlers failed to make inroads into the Rajasthan batting.

Karnataka 252 all out despite Gautam century

C M Gautam struck a magnificent maiden hundred but a late batting collapse saw Karnataka's first innings fold up for 252 against Maharashtra on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Super League Group 'B' match in Bangalore on Thursday.

At stumps, Maharashtra were 35 for 1 with Harshad Khadiwale unbeaten on 23.

Electing to bat, the hosts never really got a start and lost wickets at regular intervals.

Gautam's 198-ball 108 gave some respectability to the Karnataka innings, which otherwise would looked in utter disarray.

He struck 10 fours and a six en route to his 226 minute stay at the crease before he was caught in front of the wicket by Samad Fallah.

Apart from Gautam, India discard Robin Uthappa (36 off 57), C Raghu (27 off 47) and Deepak Chougule (39 off 90) made double figures.

For Maharashtra, Fallah (4-47), Salik Agharkar (3-87) and Enamul Haque (2-40) were the wicket-takers.

Opener Rohan Bhosale was the only Maharashtra wicket to fall at the fag end of the day, clean bowled by Raghu for eight.
