Coach Greg Chappell [Images] may have drawn much flak for the Indian cricket team's dismal showing of late, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Friday made it clear that there is no question of replacing him at this stage.

"There is no question of sacking him. Till the contract is there, there is no need to interfere in it," BCCI president Sharad Pawar [Images] told reporters in Delhi.

"It is true that their [the team] performance was not up to the mark and there is tremendous scope to improve, but one should not forget that it is the same team, the same captain and the same coach which had given extremely good results in Pakistan, Sri Lanka [Images] and the West Indies [Images]," Pawar said.

The Indian team's humiliating 157-run defeat to South Africa in the second ODI in the Durban has evoked strong criticism from cricket fans and parliamentarians, many of whom demanded the sacking of Chappell.
