• Chris Gayle took his series aggregate to 474 (avg 79.00) from 8 games. This is the fourth highest run-aggregate for any batsman in ODI tournament (comprising of four or more teams). Only Sachin Tendulkar [Images] (673 runs in 11 matches in 2002-03 World Cup, avg 61.18 and 523 runs in 7 matches in 1995-96 World Cup, avg 87.16) and Mark Waugh [Images] (484 runs in 7 matches in 1995-96 World Cup, avg 80.66) have accumulated more runs in a tournament than Gayle.

• Gayle has now scored 1,160 runs in 28 matches in 2006. Only Sri Lanka's [Images] Kumar Sangakkara - 1,208 runs in 34 matches has aggregated more this year.

• Nathan Bracken's [Images] three wickets in the match took his wicket-aggregate in the year 2006 to 46 - highest tally for any bowler in this year. He was earlier at level with fellow teammate Brett Lee [Images] with 43 wickets. Bracken has played 23 matches as against Lee's 26.

• West Indies' [Images] total of 138 is the fifth lowest total in the final of a tournament comprising of four or more teams. Interestingly West Indies have three appearances in the top-six lowest totals in ODI finals. The accompanying table has the details.

• West Indies were at one stage 80 for two, but lost last 8 wickets for a mere addition of 58 runs. This is the second worst 8-wicket collapse in a ODI tournament final (comprising of 4 or more teams). Ironically the previous record was made against West Indies. In the 1979 World Cup final at Lord's, England [Images] were bundled out for 194 from a position of 183 for two - losing last 8 wickets for just 11 runs!

• The match lasted for only 58.5 overs - West Indies batted for 30.4 overs and Australia for 28.1. This is now the 'shortest' decided final of any ODI tournament comprising of four or more teams where at least one team had full quota of 50 overs at its disposal. The World Cup 1999 final between Australia and Pakistan was completed in 59.1 overs and had topped the list previously.

• Australia won the ICC [Images] Champions Trophy for the first time in five attempts.

• Ricky Ponting [Images] became first captain to win both World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy titles.

• Although Australia has won a record 30 triangular tournaments, it was only their fifth title win in a tournament comprising of four or more teams. Apart from the three World Cup wins (in 1987-88, 1999 and 2002-03) Australia's only tournament win had been in New Zealand [Images] Centenary Cup in 1994-95. (Although Australia also won Benson & Hedges World Series Cup in 1994-95 that comprised four teams, the finals of the tournament were declared unofficial later).
