Having managed to "take the momentum away from India", South Africa are now looking to set a target of 250 runs for the hosts in the fourth innings of the second and deciding cricket Test in Kolkata.

"A lead of around 250 runs in the fourth innings will be substantial, we want to keep a target of 250 for India to chase on the last day," South African coach Ray Jennings said after the third day's play.

He said his bowlers had taken "the momentum away from India" and he would now bank on spinner Justin Ontong and others to do the trick on a turning Eden track.

"There will be an interesting contest on the last two days. The wicket will turn and remember that India has to play the fourth innings," Jennings said.

Asked about his lack of options in the spinning department, he said "Ontong is getting the turns. Cricket is a funny game. Who knows, he may even get five-six wickets in the last innings. Besides, (Jacques) Kallis and (Jacques) Rudolph may be ready to bowl in the second innings."

Resenting the criticism over the visitors' approach to the game, the South African coach said "there is so much talk about us playing for a draw. Now I think, the Indian side is playing for a draw."

Crediting the change in the complexion of the game to his bowlers, he said, "our bowlers showed tremendous application. The way India started, a lead of 150 was on the cards today. But we managed to pull things back."
