Uttar Pradesh score first win

Uttar Pradesh thrashed Assam by eight wickets riding on fine half-centuries by skipper Jyoti Yadav and Suresh Raina on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match in Kanpur on Saturday.
Resuming at their overnight score of 77 for one, Uttar Pradesh needed 83 runs to register their first win of Ranji competition and they sailed to the target without many hiccups.
A solid partnership of 111 runs between skipper Yadav and Raina was the highpoint of the UP innings. Raina remained unbeaten on 89 with the help of fifteen boundaries and a huge six.
Yadav made 61 with the help of a dozen boundaries, but fell to Kanwar when the hosts were 133.
Uttar Pradesh earned four points from the tie and will face Hyderabad in their next match to be played in Hyderabad.
