Inzy eyes fourth straight win over India

November 11, 2004 16:58 IST

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq wants to make it four wins in a row against India on Saturday when the teams clash in their first One-Day International on Indian soil in over five years.

Pakistan lost a Test and one-day series at home to India earlier this year but have since beaten India in three one-day matches in Sri Lanka, the Netherlands and England.

The teams will meet in Kolkata's Eden Gardens before 120,000 people to celebrate the Board of Control for Cricket in India's 75th anniversary.

"We've won three one-dayers in a row against India and we're confident of winning the fourth," Inzamam said on Thursday.

"But that doesn't mean we're going to take them lightly. They have a strong batting line-up, which may not have been in great form but can be devastating if it clicks."

India lost a four-Test series to Australia 2-1 last week with opener Virender Sehwag hitting the only century for the hosts.

The Pakistani team crossed the border on Wednesday for the first time since 1999 when the tour was marred by political problems.

Hindu nationalist party Shiv Sena dug up the pitch in New Delhi to protest against a Test match and the stands had to be emptied in Kolkata because of crowd trouble after Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed in a freak run out.

In 2000, the Indian government banned all home and away cricket against Pakistan due to political tensions.

But the policy was changed last year after a thaw in relations and the Indian team's tour of Pakistan earlier this year was a diplomatic success. Pakistan are scheduled to travel to India for a full Test series next February.
