Training camp for pace bowlers in June

May 15, 2004 20:01 IST

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning to hold a training and physical conditioning camp for the Indian pace bowlers in June, BCCI sources said in Mumbai on Saturday.

Indian team's physical trainer Gregory King is expected to put the fast bowlers through their paces during the stint in Bangalore, they indicated.

It is not yet known how many pacemen will be invited for the conditioning camp which is to be held ahead of the preparatory camp for the entire Indian squad likely to commence in the first week of July before the six-nation Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is awaiting the return of senior players Anil Kumble and Sachin Tendulkar, who are at present overseas, to have one final round of talks with the duo along with captain Sourav Ganguly and vice-captain Rahul Dravid prior to introducing the much-delayed player contracts.

Kumble is expected to be back later this month while Tendulkar, now in Europe, is expected to return home around June 10.

The contracts for 20 selected players, to be chosen by a special committee, are expected to be put in place ahead of the July 16-August 1 Asia Cup, Board sources added.
