It is breach of contract, says Miandad

June 16, 2004 20:49 IST

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad, who was unceremoniously sacked as national coach, on Wednesday, hit out at the Pakistan Cricket Board, saying terminating his services and hiring a new coach is "breach of contract".

"I am disappointed that my contract has been terminated," Miandad, who is replaced by former South Africa coach Bob Woolmer, said.

"My contract is till April 2005. It is a breach of contract even if they make an attempt to hire another coach before that period," Miandad added.

The Pakistan coach, who had been earlier told that he could complete his full term despite Pakistan's first-ever series defeat to arch-rivals India at home recently, said, "I cannot be held responsible for the defeat against India.

"You cannot blame a single person. It is a defeat of the whole team."

The PCB had asked Miandad to serve as national advisor on cricket development but the former Test cricketer refused to accept the post citing "personal reasons".
