Agarkar raring to bowl with McGrath

July 16, 2004 14:42 IST

Wiry speedster Ajit Agarkar says it will be a "great experience" bowling in tandem with Australia paceman Glenn McGrath for English county Middlesex, who have signed him for a month.

Agarkar, who has taken the opportunity of an enforced absence from the national squad following his omission from the Asia Cup squad, will be the first Indian to play for Middlesex in the English county championship.

He is scheduled to leave for England on Saturday.

"Yes, I am going tomorrow to England. I will be joining Middlesex immediately and would be playing till August 20 unless I am selected to play for India (in the forthcoming one-day tournaments after the Asia Cup)," the Mumbai paceman said in Mumbai on Friday.

Asked how he feels about getting the chance to bowl in tandem with McGrath, the player with a Test hundred at Lord's under his belt replied: "It would be a great experience.

"I was aware that he would be playing for Middlesex around the same time."

McGrath has also been signed up for a short stint by the English county.

"I would be playing basically in the county championship games and in a few one-day games," Agarkar said, adding he may not get a chance to play in the exciting Twenty20 Cup games as those may be over by the time he reaches England.
