December 23, 2004 21:41 IST
Ranjit Khirid came up with a splendid all-round performance as Maharashtra took control of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'B' cricket match against Uttar Pradesh on the second day in Kolhapur on Thursday.
Khirid, who scored 80 runs in Maharashtra's first innings, claimed five wickets to restrict Uttar Pradesh to 234 for eight.
Suresh Raina (67) and Rizwan Shamshad (60) were the only UP batsmen who could provide some resistence to the otherwise lacklustre batting by the visitors.
Praveen Gupta (6) and Ashish Winston Zaidi (6) were at the crease when the stumps were drawn for the day. Earlier, resuming at 305 for the loss of seven wickets, Maharashtra was allout for 394 with Ranjit Khirid again contributing, this time through bat, as he made 80 runs.
For the visitors, S Shrivastava claimed three wickets for 69 runs.
