Gujarat recover after bad start
December 22, 2004 21:00 IST
After a disastrous start, Gujarat managed to score 207 for four wickets on the opening day of the four-day Elite 'B' Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh at Ahmedabad.
Gujarat's recovery was scripted by an unbeaten sparkling century by middle-order bastman Kirit Damani, who cracked 112 runs with one six and 14 fours.
Electing to bat, Gujarat were in for early trouble when they lost both their openers Hem Joshipura (3) and Akash Christian (6) with just 13 runs on the scoreboard.
N K Patel (17) didn't last too long either and just like that Gujarat were reduced to 46 for the loss of three wickets.
But Damani added valuable runs with Bhavik Thaker (52) as the duo tried to salvage the situation before the latter was trapped leg before by Sunil Dholpure off the last ball of the day.
For the visitors, Sanjay Pandey was the best bowler on view taking three wickets. Dholpure claimed the remaining.
