Haryana sitting pretty

December 14, 2004 21:07 IST

Haryana, with an overall lead of 305 with two second innings wicket in hand, have taken a firm grip over Vidarbha at close on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group 'B' match  at Nagpur on Tuesday.

Vidarbha resuming at a desperate 42 for five, were bundled out for 57 led by some aggressive medium pace bowling from Joginder Sharma (8 for 24 off 15.2 overs) in the morning.

He claimed all the five wickets to fall this morning including that of top scorer Amit Deshpande (28).

Haryana in their second innings lost Chetan Sharma cheaply but recovered through Bisht (38), Sunny Singh (34) to stage partial recovery. Home team spinners Preetam Gandhe (2 for 58) and Harshal Shittot (2 for 22) struck midway briefly but skipper Ajay Ratra (32) and Shafiq Khan (32) pulled their team to safety.

Vidarbha, with two wickets to claim, will have to bat out of their skin if they fancy any chance of making a match of it.

Brief scores:

Haryana first innings: 154 all out

Vidarbha first innings: 57 all out (A Deshpande 28, J S Sharma 8 for 24, S Rana 2 for 15)

Haryana second innings: 208 for eight (B Bisht 38, A Ratra 32, S Singh 32, S Khan 32, S Singh 2 for 50, P Gandhe 2 for 58, H Shittot 2 for 22).
