Half centuries by opening batsman Wasim Jaffer (86 off 105 balls) and Amol Muzumdar (56 not out) helped reigning champions Mumbai take a 18-run first innings lead over Gujarat on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group 'A' cricket match in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Resuming at their overnight score of 210 for eight, the visitors were bowled out for 232 off 97 overs 26 minutes after the start of play with Test discard Ajit Agarkar picking up both the wickets of Bhavik Thakkar (22 off 72 balls) and last man Ashrat Makda (9). Hitesh Majmudar was left stranded on 19.
Jaffer and Vinayak Mane gave the hosts a solid start putting on 99 runs off 32.5 overs before Gujarat bowlers tasted success when they had Mane caught by make shift wicketkeeper Nilesh Modi off paceman Makda for 28 off 105 balls with four fours.
