- Sachin Tendulkar (159*) equaled Sunil Gavaskar's world record of 34 Test centuries. Interestingly Tendulkar was playing only his 192^nd innings, whereas Gavaskar's 34^th century came in his 206^th innings.

- The century was 19^th for Tendulkar in an overseas Test – most by any batsman in Test cricket history. He was earlier at level with Sunil Gavaskar with 18 centuries.

- The century by Tendulkar was the first by an Indian batsman against Bangladesh. The previous highest innings for India against Bangladesh was 92 by Sunil Joshi in the first innings of Dhaka Test in November 2000.

- Tendulkar also became the third batsman in Test chronicles to notch up at least a century against all other nine Test playing countries after Australia's Steve Waugh and South Africa's Gary Kirsten.

- Tendulkar also completed his 18,000 runs in first-class cricket when his score reached 6. He became third Indian after Sunil Gavaskar (25,834 runs in 348 matches at 51.46) and Vijay Hazare (18,740 runs in 238 matches at 58.38) to do so.

- This was the 15^th occasion for Tendulkar scoring 150 or more runs in an innings in Test cricket, which takes him ahead of Brian Lara's tally of 14. Now only Don Bradman (18) is ahead of Tendulkar in scoring most 150-plus scores.

- Tendulkar has now scored 150 runs in an innings against 8 different countries. The only exception are Sri Lanka.

- Tendulkar has now made 142-fifty plus scores in first-class cricket - same number as that of Dilip Vengsarkar. Now only Sunil Gavaskar, with 186 fifty-plus scores (81 centuries + 105 fifties), is ahead of Tendulkar in Indian first-class cricket.

- Tendulkar was scoring 150 or more runs in a single day's play for the sixth time in his career. No other Indian has done the same on more than two occasions. Tendulkar's best performance has been 168 runs (on the third day) in the Cape Town Test against South Africa in 1996-97.

- The fourth wicket stand of 164 runs between Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly is India's best against Bangladesh for any wicket. This obliterated the 121-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Joshi at Dhaka in November 2000.

- The 348 runs (for the loss of 7 wickets) made by India is a record of most runs in a single day's play in Bangladesh. The previous record was of 338 runs scored for the loss of 3 wickets by New Zealand on the opening day of Chittagong Test in October this year.
