Damp conditions delay start of first Test

The start of the first cricket Test between India and Bangladesh has been delayed by at least an hour due to a damp wicket at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday.

The pitch, which was watered yesterday, has not dried up completely due to overcast conditions and is still being rolled.

The umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Aleem Dar held a second inspection at 1000 hours and felt the pitch would be fit for play by noon (1130 hours IST).

The umpires are waiting for the wicket to dry enough so that ball, when pitched, may not cause dents on it.

The first inspection was held at 0900 hours.
