The government has advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India to proceed with the team's tour of Bangladesh and play its matches in Dhaka, it was officially announced on Tuesday.

The Indian security delegation is going to Chittagong to make a similar assessment, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said.

The team was to leave for Bangladesh on Tuesday but postponed its departure following a death threat issued by a militant group in Dhaka.

The first Test against Bangladesh will be played from December 10 instead of December 9 as scheduled earlier. The team will play two Tests and three one-day internationals.

The government advised the BCCI to proceed with the tour for matches in Dhaka since its assessment of Chittagong, the other venue for the two-Test and three one-day series, is yet to be completed.

"The cricket team's visit to Chittagong will be decided on the basis of the assessment to be given to the government by the delegation," Sarna told reporters.

The Indian team has been booked for a Wednesday morning flight for Dhaka and with the government giving the go-ahead, the departure appears certain.

The Indian security delegation, which reached Dhaka on Monday evening, carried out a thorough joint on-site inspection of the venues in Dhaka, the team hotel as well as the routes which would be used for local travel by the team.

"Our officials also made a number of recommendations for strengthening the security arrangements for the visiting team.

These were accepted in entirety by the Bangladesh authorities," he said.
