Strong fightback by Baroda
December 06, 2004 21:20 IST
Baroda need 94 runs for an outright victory over Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy Group 'A' match.
After conceding a first innings lead of 77 runs, they fought their way back, bowling Hyderabad for 198 and then scoring 182 for 5 in the second innings in Hyderabad on Monday.
Left arm spinner Rajesh Pawar ran through Hyderabad, who resumed at 179 for 6 on day 3, in the first hour of play with a brilliant hat-trick, dismissing overnight batsman Ibrahim Khaleel for 65 (inclusive of five hits to the fence), N P Singh (0) and Venkatapathy Raju (0).
Baroda, who were skittled out for 93 in reply to hosts' 170 in the first innings, began their second essay in the earnest despite losing skipper Connor Williams (6) early.
The magic of first innings hero N P Singh did not work as the other opener, Satyajit Parab, and Hrishikesh Parab played with ease before Satyaji was well taken by Rayudu for 41, inclusive of five fours.
For the hosts, skipper Raju claimed two wickets while speedster Md Ghouse and Shahnawaz took a wicket each.
