India put off Bangladesh tour

April 05, 2004 16:23 IST

India's proposed tour of Bangladesh in July-August has been postponed indefinitely but the team will travel to Amsterdam for a tri-nation tournament, Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary S K Nair said on Monday.

Amsterdam will be hosting a tri-series involving World champions Australia, India and Pakistan from August 22 to 27.

Nair said the tour of Bangladesh had to be put-off till the next year due to a cramped schedule.

He also said South Africa is likely to tour India for a seven-match one-day series from November 10 to 30.

"The Board was very keen to send a full strength team to Bangladesh but have decided against it as we don't want our cricketers to suffer burn-out before an important four-match Test series (at home) against Australia in September," Nair said from Thiruvananthapuram.

"Our cricketers will get hardly a month's break after the 40-day Pakistan tour. The major tournaments this year include Asia Cup in June-July, Tri-nation tourney at Amsterdam from August 22-27, followed by three one-day matches in England before the Champions Trophy," he said.

"If the South African Board agrees to play seven one-dayers then we will invite them for a Test series in the beginning of next year," Nair added.

India is scheduled to play two Test matches and three one-dayers in Bangladesh.
