Moin Khan ruled out for 2nd Test

April 04, 2004 17:47 IST

Pakistan's bid to level the series against India received a big blow when veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan was ruled out of the crucial second Test starting in Lahore on Monday.

Moin is suffering from a groin injury and would be replaced by Kamran Akmal, captain Inzamam-u Haq told reporters on Sunday. The 22-year-old Akmal has played just four Tests and Monday's match would be his first on home soil.

Moin, a former captain and veteran of 68 Tests and 205 ODIs, had not taken part in the nets on Saturday and Akmal was called to keep wickets.

The 32-year-old is the second-most senior member of the Pakistani team, which lost to India by an innings and 52 runs in the first Test at Multan to go down 1-0 in the three-match series.
