Saqlain reprimanded for abusing Miandad

October 30, 2003 19:07 IST

The disciplinary committee of the Pakistan cricket board (PCB) has let bowler Saqlain Mushtaq off with a reprimand for verbally abusing coach Javed Miandad.

PCB legal advisor Asghar Haider confirmed on Thursday that the committee had decided against a stiffer punishment after Saqlain apologised at Wednesday's hearing in Lahore.

Saqlain was asked to appear before the disciplinary committee after he verbally abused Miandad on the phone after being dropped from the Pakistan team for the Test series against South Africa.

"They have not fined or banned him," Haider said. "The committee reached the decision after Saqlain apologised to Javed Miandad for his behaviour and also to the committee members.

But Haider said that the PCB chairman Tauqir Zia, who is abroad, could still take further action against Saqlain if he felt the need to do so.
