The series was fought hard but sportingly, and at the end the two teams exchanged cordial handshakes.

This was the second time New Zealand had forced India to follow on at home.

It happened for the first time on New Zealand's tour of India way back in 1965, in the third Test at the Brabourne Stadium in Bombay. That match too ended in a draw, but with New Zealand fighting to avoid defeat.
