Pollock fined match fees for dissent

October 08, 2003 21:21 IST

Match referee Clive Lloyd fined South Africa's Shaun Pollock his full match fees on Wednesday for dissent in Tuesday's third one-day international against Pakistan.

"Umpire Darrell Hair reported Pollock for showing dissent and after taking into account evidence he was charged under level two clause of the code of conduct and has been fined his full match fees," Lloyd said on Wednesday.

However the match referee found no evidence that South Africa's Mark Boucher used abusive language during the third match against Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board added that Lloyd had held hearings to hear the charges and had exonerated Boucher.

"The match referee has also cautioned the Pakistan and South African teams over slow over-rates," Samiul Hasan said.

He said Lloyd had not fined the Pakistan team for slow over-rates in the third one-dayer because the match finished early due to bad light.

"But the slow over-rate remains a major concern and teams can run into serious trouble as they have already been fined in the second one-dayer in Lahore," Lloyd said.

Hasan said both teams had been fined 10 per cent of their match fees and the captains 20 per cent for the second Lahore match.

"They have to improve their over-rate particularly when they are playing three spinners," Lloyd said, referring to Pakistan.

"It amazes me they can't finish their overs on time and if they keep on bowling slow over-rates they are also robbing spectators of their value for money."

Shaun Pollock is the ninth player to be fined or suspended this year for violating the code of conduct.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif was the last when he was banned for five matches by match-referee Mike Procter under a level three offence for taking a contentious catch in the third Test against Bangladesh in early September in Multan.

Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Darren Lehmann, Harbhajan Singh, Khaled Mahmud, Prabath Nissanka, Shoaib Akhtar are the others fined or suspended this year.
