Mushtaq out of series, Inzamam doubtful for next match

October 05, 2003 22:59 IST

Pakistan leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been ruled out of the rest of the one-day series against South Africa with a pulled stomach muscle.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman Samiul Hasan told reporters on Sunday that captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was also a doubtful starter for the third match on Tuesday because of a strained hamstring.

"Mushtaq is definitely out of the one-day series since he has been advised eight to 10 days rest by the doctors. But Inzamam has a 40 percent chance of playing in Faisalabad on Tuesday," Hasan said.

Mushtaq was recalled to the Pakistan side for the series against South Africa after being ignored for two years. He took 105 wickets for English county Sussex last season to help them win their first ever championship title.

He played in the first match in Lahore on Friday and returned disappointing figures of none for 65, in his first appearance for Pakistan since facing England in a ODI in Rawalpindi in 2000.

"Mushtaq is disappointed at having to miss the rest of the one-day matches but he will be under consideration for the two Tests," Hasan said.
