UP hold Mumbai to a draw

November 26, 2003 20:27 IST

Fancied Mumbai earned just two points against Uttar Pradesh as the Elite Group 'A' Ranji Trophy match ended in a tame draw on the fourth and final day in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Despite a late burst by leg spinner Sairaj Bahutule, Mumbai failed to wrap up Uttar Pradesh's second innings, the hosts finishing on 205 for seven wickets.

Earlier, Mumbai made 332 in reply to UP's first innings score of 205.

Mumbai skipper Bahutule bagged six wickets for 48 runs in 36 overs as the visitors grabbed four wickets in the last session of the match.

Beginning the day on 22 for one, with Uttar Pradesh facing a deficit of 127, the hosts lost opener Rohit Prakash (28), who was castled by Bahutule.

Then Jyoti Yadav and S Raina added 66 runs for the third wicket before Bahutule grabbed four wickets in the last session.

Jyoti (41) was out, caught behind off the bowling of Onkar Khanvilkar. Raina completed his half century before he was caught in the slips off Bahutule.

R Shamshad scored 35 runs and became the fourth victim of Bahutule.

Gyanendra Pandey, who was unbeaten on 77 in the first innings, was out for 12.
