Kerala, Railways in tame draw

The four-day Elite Group A Ranji Trophy match between Kerala and Railways ended in a tame draw at Fort Maidan in Palakkad on Tuesday.

Kerala collected two points for the first innings lead of 26 runs.

Kerala and former champions Railways have two points each after two outings.

Railways, resuming at their overnight score of 181 for 3, were all out for 320 runs in their second knock on the final day.

The hosts, needing 346 for an outright win, scored 142 for 3 in their second innings before play was called off after completion of the eighth mandatory over.

Kerala leg-spinner Ananthapadmanabhan, who claimed seven Railways wickets, conceded 104 runs in his 36.2 overs spell.

Skipper Sanjay Bankar (86), Tejinder Pal Singh (50) and Harvinder  Singh (50) helped Railways to pile 320 in their second innings.

Sunil Oasis (50) and Ajay Kuduva (50) were unbeaten in Kerala's second innings.

Kerala will take on Andhra in their third match at Vijayawada from November 23 to 26.

Brief scores: Railways 295 and 320 (Sanjay Bangar 86, Tejinder Singh 50, Harvinder Singh 50; Ananthapadmanabhan 7/104) drew with Kerala 321 and 142 for 3 (Ajay Kuduva 50 not out, Sunil Oasis 50 not out).
