Windies recall Jacobs for 4th ODI
May 24, 2003 17:21 IST
West Indies have recalled wicketkeeper Ridley Jacobs for Saturday's fourth one day international as they try to prevent Australia taking a 4-0 lead in the seven-match series.
Jacobs took part in a full practice session on Friday after recovering from a groin injury.
"It will be nice to have his experience back with us," said West Indies skipper Brian Lara.
Jacobs should offer the shaky West Indies batting line-up some welcome resistance in their low order.
The West Indies have been focusing on their batting problems after seemingly attainable Australia targets had slipped out of reach in the first and third games.
"We have got to find the right formula to win both games in Trinidad. We have dissected the areas where we went wrong and the blame falls squarely on our batting," Lara said
"We have had a couple of batting meetings and we have been working on the problem. It is all about preparing the guys mentally for the moment when they go out into the middle."
Lara hinted that he could shift his own position in the batting order to give his team more stability.
"We have discussed moving me up or down the order. I may bat later because in recent one-day internationals we have been running out of steam after 35 or 40 overs," he said.
Wicketkeeper-opener Adam Gilchrist is likely to be back for the world champions after sitting out the game in St Lucia.
Michael Clarke will hope to retain his place after scoring an unbeaten 75. Opener Matthew Hayden is likely to be rested.
The win in St Lucia extended Australia's winning run to 20 one-day internationals.
