England's Marcus Trescothick insists he is back to his best after a woeful Ashes winter.

The opening batsman managed just 262 runs in 10 innings during the Test series in Australia, which the tourists lost 4-1.

And he began the English season for Somerset with a third-ball duck.

But he has bounced back to score five half-centuries in all forms of the game so far this year, plus a C&G Trophy century against Scotland.

"There is definitely more in the bank, waiting to come out," he told the Independent on Sunday.

Nasser Hussain has hinted he may retire sooner rather than later as England Test captain.

The 35-year-old said he would lead England against Zimbabwe and South Africa this summer but would then "have to wait and see".

This was a departure from what he said last month when he admitted he wanted to be England's longest-serving and most successful Test captain.

He said then he wanted to play in 100 Tests, which would mean another 19 matches

James Anderson's call-up to the England Test squad was totally expected but there were others who were taken aback as well when they received the phone call from the England selectors.

Yorkshire captain Anthony McGrath said he was "overwhelmed" and James Kirtley described himself as being "over the moon" when the call came on Saturday.

The 13-man squad for the first Test against Zimbabwe, starting at Lord's on Thursday, is a mixture of youth and experience.

Selectors have picked three untried players - Anderson, McGrath and Kirtley.
