Chandana dropped for Tests

June 09, 2003 21:48 IST

Match-winning all-rounder Upul Chandana has been left out of Sri Lanka's Test side for their two-match series against the West Indies.

Chandana, who scored 89 to guide Sri Lanka to an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the one-day series against the West Indies at Bridgetown, Barbados, on Sunday, returns home with middle order batsman Naveed Nawaz.

Test captain Hashan Tillakaratne, all-rounder Thilan Samaraweera and uncapped fast bowler Thilan Thushara Mirando have been added to the 16-man squad.

Samaraweera returns to the Test squad, having recovered from a hand injury that ruled him out of the drawn home series against New Zealand.

Fast bowler Dilhara Fernando was not considered because of a lower back injury he sustained in April.

The players called into the Test squad will arrive in the West Indies in time for Sri Lanka's three-day match in St Vincent on June 14.

The first Test will be played in St Lucia from June 20 and the second in Jamaica on June 27.

Sri Lanka Test squad: Hashan Tillakaratne (captain), Marvan Atapattu, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Chaminda Vaas, Dharshana Gamage, Prabath Nissanka, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Kumar Dharmasena, Muttiah Muralitharan, Dinusha Fernando, Thilan Samaraweera, Thilan Thushara Mirando.
