December 14, 2003 17:03 IST
Auckland skipper Brooke Walker took the chance to impress new New Zealand coach John Bracewell by taking five for 55 as Pakistan were bowled out for 318 on the first day of their three-day tour match on Sunday. In what was a good workout for the Pakistan batsmen, Yasir Hameed top scored with 96 and opener Imran Farhat hit a breezy 73, while fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar chipped in with a quick-fire 32 at number eight. Leg-spinner Walker took two wickets in his first over just before lunch when Imran skied a delivery to Rob Nicol at deep third man and then Yousuf Youhana was trapped leg before three balls later. | Also Read | | |

Walker's international record is just five wickets in five matches, but he bowled with good control and his victims, Youhana aside, succumbed trying to hit him out of the attack. Pakistan treated the crowd to some excellent batting, scoring freely in the day's first two sessions and reaching lunch at 147 for three and tea at 258 for six. Lou Vincent was the sole victim in Auckland's reply, caught for four at fine leg by Mohammad Sami after attempting to hook Shoaib. At the close, the home side were 35 for one, with Mark Richardson and Tim McIntosh both on 13. Pakistan will play two Tests against New Zealand with the first starting in Hamilton on Friday.
