Fitness camp concludes in Bangalore

August 26, 2003 18:02 IST

The 13-day conditioning camp for the Indian team probables concluded today with coach John Wright expressing happiness over the attitude and commitment of the 36 players.

"I am very, very happy with the attitude and commitment shown by everyone", Wright, flanked by team physio Andrew Leipus and newly recruited physical trainer Gregory Allen King, told reporters at Bangalore.

"Some are fit and some needed to be fitter. Every player has improved during the camp, which has been very good", he said.

To a question, he said he was not worried about the fitness of Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Kaif and Yuvraj Singh, who did not attend the camp here as they were playing abroad.

Dravid has always been a 'conscientious trainer' and the other two were training hard, he said.

Gregory Allen KingKing said the players have worked really hard and it has helped them immensely.

"The camp has helped me start building a relationship with them -- I spoke to them individually -- which is important," he said.

Asked to compare the fitness of the Indian side with that of South Africa and Australia, he said it was very difficult and not necessary to make a comparison.

"At the end of the day, it is the results on the field which are important," King said.

Leipus said the players have worked really hard at the camp and their fitness level has improved.

Meanwhile, a six-day preparatory camp would start at Bangalore from September one, and Wright said the emphasis would be on cricket-specific skills.
