Bashar leads Bangladesh to 278-9

Bangladesh batted solidly to score 278 for nine on day one of the first Test against Pakistan on Wednesday.

After being put into bat by a new-look Pakistan side, Habibul Bashar made 71, Hannan Sarkar 41 and Alok Kapali 46 before bad light ended play early.

Pakistan's bowlers, however, did hit back in the afternoon after Bashar and Sarkar had taken their team to a formidable 123 for one.

The wickets were shared by Danish Kaneria, who completed figures of three for 58, and pace bowlers Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul and Shabbir Ahmed who took two each.
