CCI to present Lord's memorabilia

August 12, 2003 21:11 IST

In a unique gesture, the Cricket Club of India will present memorabilia of the Lord's turf at Mumbai on October 19 to Indian cricketers who have scored a century or taken five or more wickets in an innings at the famous ground.

Former Board of Control for Cricket in India president, Raj Singh Dungarpur, told reporters that Tom Graveney, the first Englishman to score a Test century at the Brabourne Stadium, 175 runs in 1951-52, will also be invited to the function.

"We will felicitate the Indian players, including former skipper Mohammed Azharuddin, who is facing the BCCI ban for his role in match-fixing, and the last Indian to score a ton at Lord's -- Ajit Agarkar," Dungarpur added.

"The family members of players who are dead will also be invited to the function.

"The Lord's turf in the shape of a paper weight is brought out by the MCC-Lord's Shop recently and on this historic occasion we will also invite Charles Fry (president designate for the MCC and grandson of legendary English cricketer C B Fry), Roger Knight (secretary and chief executive of MCC), Chris Knight and Stephanie Lawrence from MCCM," he said.

"The CCI will also host the heavy weights of the International Cricket Council, under the chairmanship of its president Ehsan Mani, on September 18 and 19", he added.

The delegates attending the meeting would be staying at the club.
