  • Scorecard | Match report | Images
  • Mazharul Haque became the 59th player to make his LOI debut for Bangladesh.

  • This was the third meeting between the two teams. The teams have earlier met at Sharjah (in the Australasia Cup) on 30-4-1990 and at Chester-le-Street (in the World Cup) on 27-5-1999. On both occasions Australia won by seven wickets.

  • Jason Gillespie's bowling figures of 3-20 was statistically the best for Australia against Bangladesh. The previous best was the 3-25 by Tom Moody at Chester-le-Street on 27-5-1999.

  • This was the first occasion Australia have managed to dismiss Bangladesh in the three matches the two teams have played together. In the previous two encounters the latter have managed to survive their full quota of 50 overs while scoring 134-8 at Sharjah on 30-4-1990 and 178-7 at Chester-le-Street on 27-5-1999.

  • The first wicket partnership of 113 runs between Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden was the best for Australia for any wicket against Bangladesh. The previous best was the 98 runs put on by Gilchrist and Mark Waugh also for the first wicket at Chester-le-Street on 27-5-1999.

  • The Gilchrist-Hayden partnership of 113 runs was the only third 100-plus stand for the first wicket in this competition. The Indian pair of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar (141 v New Zealand at Nairobi, 15-10-2000) and South Africans Daryll Cullinan and Mike Rindel (113 v England at Dhaka, 25-10-1998) the other pairs to register three-figure partnerships for the first wicket in the ICC tournament since 1998.

  • For the record, Australia's previous highest partnership for the first wicket in this competition was the 68 by Hayden and Gilchrist against New Zealand at this very ground (SSC) on 15-9-2002.

  • Hayden's unbeaten 67 was the highest by an Australian batsman against Bangladesh, He went past the 63 made by Adam Gilchrist at Chester-le-Street on 27-5-1999.

  • Bangladesh have not won a single LOI match since its win against Pakistan at Northamton on 31-5-1999. Since then this was its 19th consecutive loss. Bangladesh is now slowly progressing towards its own dubious world record of 22 consecutive losses from 31-3-1986 to 14-5-1998.

  • This was Gillespie's fourth man of the match award of his career in 43 matches. Interestingly, in none of the four matches he has managed to claim more than three wickets, while claiming the award.
