Australia vs New Zealand, 4th ODI

  • Scorecard | Match report | Images
  • Australia's 296-7 in 50 overs was the second highest team score in the ICC competition. India's 307-8 in 50 overs against Australia at Dhaka on 28-10-1998 still remain the best.

  • The wicket of Jacob Oram was Glenn McGrath's 250th of his career. He becomes the second Australian (after Shane Warne - 283 wickets in 187 matches) and the 10th bowler in LOIs to reach this landmark. McGrath was appearing in his 161st match. McGrath now has the same number of wickets as South African Allan Donald (in 148 matches) and is now in the joint ninth position in the all time list of bowlers with maximum LOI wickets.

  • McGrath's 5-37 (in 7 overs) was the second best bowling performance in the ICC tournament. The best still remains as the 5-30 in 7.3 overs by South African Jacques Kallis against the West Indies at Dhaka on 1-11-1998. The previous best bowling in this tournament by an Australian before this match was the 3-71 (in 9 overs) by Michael Kasprowicz against India at Dhaka on 28-10-1998.

  • For the record, the previous best bowling against New Zealand in this tournament was the 4-65 (in 10 overs) by Pakistani Azhar Mahmood at Nairobi on 11-10-2000.

  • The tenth wicket partnership of 50 runs between Kyle Mills and Shane Bond was the best for New Zealand against Australia bettering the previous best of 33 runs between Chris Harris and Shayne O'Connor at Melbourne on 17-12-1997.

  • The Mills-Bond partnership was the second best for the 10th wicket for New Zealand. The best still remains as the 65 runs between Martin Snedden and Ewan Chatfield against Sri Lanka at Derby on 18-6-1983.

  • The above partnership was the best for the tenth wicket against Australia by any team in LOIs. The pair went past the previous best of 43 (unbeaten) between Englishmen Angus Fraser and Phil Tufnell at Melbourne on 10-1-1991.

  • The 50 run partnership was also the best for the 10th wicket in the competition obliterating the previous best of 38 (unbeaten) between Pakistanis Arshad Khan and Saqlain Mushtaq against the West Indies at Dhaka on 29-10-1998.

  • Bond (26) meanwhile, became the fourth batsman in LOIs to top-score in his team's innings while batting at number at eleven.

  • New Zealand's 132-10 in 26.2 overs, was the joint lowest team score in this competition. Sri Lanka had made 132 (with one batsman absent hurt) in 23.4 overs against South Africa at Dhaka on 30-10-1998.

  • The 164 run victory was Australia's best against New Zealand in LOIs. Their previous best win was by 150 runs at Christchurch on 4-3-1990.

  • The above win was the biggest for any team in terms of runs in the competition. Sri Lanka had won against the West Indies by 108 runs at Nairobi on 4-10-2000.

  • This was Australia's first win in three matches in the ICC Trophy. The team had lost its earlier two matches - to India - in 1998 at Dhaka and in 2000 at Nairobi.
