India v Zimbabwe, 3rd ODI

  • Sourav Ganguly has become the highest run-getter against Zimbabwe by aggregating 1255 runs in 30 matches. He is now just ahead of teammate Sachin Tendulkar who has 1249 runs in 31 matches. Incidentally both Ganguly and Tendulkar remain the only batsmen in LOIs to aggregate over 1000 runs against Zimbabwe.

  • Virender Sehwag during his innings of 48 (when on 19) became the 19th Indian batsman & the 167 batsman overall to aggregate 1000 runs in LOIs. He was playing in his 39th match and 37th innings.

  • Alistair Campbell became the first Zimbabwean fielder to take three catches in a match against India. Previously many other Zimbabwean fielders have taken two catches in a match against India.

  • Campbell's three catches in this match took his career tally to 70, which is now the maximum catches taken by a Zimbabwean fielder in LOIs. He went past the record of 68 catches previously held by Grant Flower.

  • The partnership of 117 runs between Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Kaif was India's best for the sixth wicket against Zimbabwe in LOIs, obliterating the previous best of 102 runs between Hemang Badani and Reetinder Sodhi at Rajkot on 14-12-2000.

  • The above partnership was also the best at the Premadasa Stadium surpassing the previous best of 115 runs between Sri Lankans Roshan Mahanama and Aravinda deSilva against Australia on 30-8-1996.

  • The unbeaten partnership of 84 runs between M Kaif and Anil Kumble was the best by any team in this competition for the seventh wicket. The pair betters the previous best of 74 between West Indians Laurie Williams and Mahendra Nagamootoo against Sri Lanka at Nairobi on 4-10-2000.

  • The above partnership was also the best for the seventh wicket at this ground. The previous best was the unbeaten 58 between Pakistanis Azhar Mahmood and Abdur Razzaq against the home side on 9-7-2000.

  • M Kaif's unbeaten 111 was highest score of his career bettering his unbeaten 87 he made in his previous match against England at Lord's on 13-7-2002.

  • Kaif, meanwhile became the only second batsman in LOI history to record a century while batting at number seven. Sri Lankan Hashan Tillakaratne had made an exact 100 against the West Indies at Sharjah on 16-10-1995. Kaif now has the highest individual score by a batsman at number seven in LOIs.

  • For the record, the previous highest score by a number seven for India was the unbeaten 94 by Sameer Dighe against the West Indies at Harare on 7-7-2001; and the previous best by a number 7 against Zimbabwe was the 75 by South African Shaun Pollock at Johannesburg on 31-1-1997.

  • England's Adam Hollioake's unbeaten 83 against South Africa at Dhaka on 25-10-1998 was the previous highest score by a number 7 in this competition.

  • Douglas Hondo's 4-62 was the best bowling figures for Zimbabwe in this competition bettering the previous best of 3-58 by Henry Olonga against New Zealand at Nairobi on 9-10-2000. It was also the best against India in this competition surpassing the previous best figures of 3-38 by West Indian Merv Dillon at Dhaka on 31-10-1998.

  • Andy Flower during his knock of 145 (when on 13) became the first Zimbabwean and the 21st batsman overall to aggregate 6000 runs in LOIs. He was appearing in his 196th match and 193rd innings of his career.

  • Andy Flower's 145 was the highest by a Zimbabwean in LOIs, eclipsing the previous best of 142 not out achieved twice - by Grant Flower against Bangladesh at Bulawayo on 11-4-2001 and by Andy himself against England at Harare on 7-10-2001. Dave Houghton had scored 142 against New Zealand at Hyderabad (Ind) on 10-10-1987, which was the previous highest score made by a Zimbabwean abroad, until Andy surpassed the score in this match.

  • Andy Flower's 145 was by far the highest by a Zimbabwean against India. He went past the unbeaten 105 by Alistair Campebell at Sharjah on 26-10-2000.

  • It was Andy Flower's best score against India. He had made 89 at Hyderabad (Ind) earlier this year on 16-3-2002.

  • It was the highest individual score made in this competition. Sourav Ganguly (141 not out against South Africa at Nairobi, 13-10-2000) and Sachin Tendulkar (141 against Australia at Dhaka on 28-10-1998) had previously held the record.

  • Andy Flower's 145 also equals the highest ever score made in Sri Lanka. Aravinda deSilva had also made 145 against Kenya at Kandy on 6-3-1996. However Flower bettered the previous best at this ground, which was the unbeaten 131 by Arjuna Ranatunga also against India on 18-7-1997.

  • Zaheer Khan (4-45) recorded his fourth four-wicket haul against Zimbabwe in his 14th match. Interestingly no other bowler has achieved more than two four-wicket hauls against Zimababwe in LOIs.

  • M Kaif picked up his second consecutive man of the match award of his career. He had received his first in his previous match against England at Lord's on 13-7-2002.
