  • Scorecard | Match report | Images
  • West Indian all-rounder Vasbert Drakes, who last appeared in a LOI match on 18-3-1995 against Australia at Georgetown have missed 153 matches for the West Indies and was making a comeback after seven years and 179 days.

Only three other players in LOI history have missed more matches (New Zealand's Grant Bradburn missed 184 matches before his return in 2001), while only four others have made a comeback after a longer break (England opener Wayne Larkins made a comeback after 9 years 266 days in 1989).

This is now a West Indan record which was previously held by former opener Clayton Lambert who had missed 131 matches and 6 years 158 days when he made a comeback in March 1998.

  • Mark Boucher (123 matches) became the most capped keeper for South Africa. He went past the tally of 122 matches previously held by Dave Richardson.

  • The partnership of 63 runs between Chris Gayle and S Chanderpaul was the best for the West Indies for the first wicket in this tournament. The previous best was the 34 runs made on two occasions between Philo Wallace and Stuart Williams against Pakistan at Dhaka on 29-10-198 and Sherwin Campbell and Courtney Browne against Sri Lanka at Nairobi on 4-10-2000.

  • The partnership of 46 runs between Chanderpaul and Carl Hooper was the best for the West Indies for the third wicket in this tournament. The pair obliterates the previous best of 35 runs between Chanderpaul and Lara against India at Dhaka on 31-10-1998.

  • The wicket of Wavell Hinds was Allan Donald's 250th of his career. He becomes first South African and the 9th bowler in LOIs to reach this landmark. By reaching this mark in his 148th match he becomes the second quickest among bowlers who have taken 250 wickets in least matches. Only Pakistani Saqlain Mushtaq need lesser matches - 138 - for his 250th wicket in 2000-01, while Waqar Younis also needed 148 matches for 250th wicket, which he achieved in 1996-97.

  • The 117 run partnership between Boeta Dippenaar and Jonty Rhodes was the best for South Africa against the West Indies for the 4th wicket bettering the previous best of 112 between Gary Kirsten and Hansie Cronje at Lahore on 3-11-1997.

  • The above partnership equals South Africa's best for the fourth wicket in the competition. The pair of Cronje and Rhodes had put on 117 runs against England on 25-10-1998 at Dhaka.

  • The victory off the last ball was the second such result in this tournament. New Zealand had won against Zimbabwe at Dhaka on 24-10-1998 in the first edition of this tournament.

  • This was South Africa's 18th win over the West Indies in 26 matches.
