Fractured jaw rules Kumble out of Antigua Test

Leg-spinner Anil Kumble has been ruled out of the rest of the fourth Test against West Indies with a fractured jaw.

"We just took him to the hospital for x-rays this morning and it was found that the jaw was severely fractured," India team manager Gautam Dasgupta told Reuters.

Kumble was hit by a rising delivery from paceman Mervyn Dillon on the second day of the Test on Saturday at the Antigua Recreation Ground.

Dasgupta said the India team management was discussing whether to have the bowler treated in the Caribbean or send him back to India.

"It's not great news," India team coach John Wright said. "We're hoping he'll be fine soon."

India declared on 513 for nine at lunch on the third day of the fourth Test with the series level at 1-1.

Kumble, India's most successful current bowler with 318 wickets in 69 Tests, was recalled for the match after being left out of the last two Tests at Trinidad and Barbados.

The 31-year-old took all ten Pakistan second innings wickets at New Delhi in early 1999 to equal Englishman Jim Laker's world record and set up a memorable series-levelling win.
