1991-92Warne made his Test debut against India at Sydney after having played just four Sheffield Shield games.Skipper Allan Border introduced Warne to a huge roar from the stands in the 18th over of the innings. Ian Chappell, sitting in the Channel Nine commentary box, rang Terry Jenner, Warne's coach, and turning up the effects microphone said, `Listen to this mate. And this for a leg spinner.' After bowling 244 balls Ravi Shastri became his first Test wicket. Warne earlier dropped Shastri who scored 206 off his own bowling at 66.
1992-93He toured Sri Lanka; then took 7-52 against West Indies at Melbourne including 4-3 in 38 balls. The Windies slumped from 1-143 to 219 all out.`Victory in a flip of the wrist' headlined the Age. He then toured New Zealand, making his one-day international debut at Wellington. |
