England's tour of India

Warwickshire teammates Ashley Giles and Nick Knight shared the limelight as England pulled off a thrilling victory.

Giles became only the third England spinner to take five wickets in a one-day international after Knight had made 105 to steer them to their highest total of the six-match series.

India needed nine to win off the final over but Darren Gough, playing his 100th one-day game, used his experience to restrict them to six and enable England to reduce India's lead to 3-2.

Fielding lapses had threatened to cost England dear as Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Kaif shared a fourth wicket stand of 111.

Pakistan vs West Indies

Pakistan recovered well in the final session as the class of Yousuf Youhana shone through a dour opening day at the inaugural Sharjah Test, watched by just 50 fans.

Two down at lunch and four down at tea, Pakistan were in danger of failing to make use of a handy toss won by their skipper Waqar Younis.

But Youhana ended the day on 78 not out, and at 230-5, Pakistan have a platform for a decent first innings score.

Earlier, Mervyn Dillon and Carl Hooper combined well to keep Pakistan in check.

Triangular in Australia

Allan Donald could get South Africa into the final. He is all set to put in a star turn in South Africa's crucial one-day match against New Zealand on Friday, according to his skipper Shaun Pollock.

"Allan has quite a bit of cricket under his belt now," Pollock said. "He's firing on all cylinders and raring to go. I'm sure you'll see a fine performance from him."

Donald, who has recently been hampered by a finger injury, has struggled with injuries on the Australia tour where the South Africans lost the Test series 3-0.

U-19 World Cup

Super League:
Pakistan 184-8 (43.4 overs) beat India 181 (48.5 overs) by two wickets.

Pakistan grabbed an excellent win over Cup holders India on Thursday but were knocked out of the ICC Under-19s World Cup due to the West Indies' win against Sri Lanka.

After 18 months without playing cricket against each other - due to the current tensions between the two countries - the two sides renewed rivalry for the first time.

Super League:
West Indies 202 (47.5 overs) beat Sri Lanka 140 (47 overs) by 62 runs.

Sri Lanka's disappointing Super League campaign ended in a third consecutive loss with the West Indies ambling to victory to become surprise semi-finalists.

The tournament's top run scorer Donovan Pagon continued his rich vein of form with an innings of 92 to lift the West Indies' total to 202 all out.

Miscellaneous

Pakistan's five-month inquiry into match-fixing at the 1999 World Cup has eventually concluded with "no direct evidence" found.

Justice Karamat Bhandari's commission was set up after South Africa cricket boss Dr Ali Bacher's alleged that Pakistan played two fixed matches in the last World Cup.

The Lahore-based commission wrote to Bacher and the UCBSA twice asking them to testify or send a statement to substantiate the allegation. But none was forthcoming.

Pakistan's Sports Ministry will now submit the report to the President of Pakistan who is also the patron of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
