India's tour of West Indies

India were 165/4 at stumps on the third day of the second Test against the West Indies in Port-of-Spain. The visitors lead by 265 runs.

VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly rallied the Indians with a fifth wicket stand unbroken in the final session of the day.

Javagal Srinath said he felt for out-of-favour leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who has been dropped for the Test.

Kumble is only the second Indian after Kapil Dev to have taken more than 300 wickets, and was left out of the Test team for the first time since 1990.

"I think we miss Kumble. It's little bit hard for a man of his calibre to sit out of the game and I really feel sorry for him, but that's the way things go sometimes," said Srinath.

New Zealand's tour of Pakistan

1st ODI: Pak 275-6 (50 overs) beat NZ 122 all out (30 overs) by 153 runs.

Pakistan wrapped up a thoroughly convincing win in the opening fixture in this series as Yousuf Youhana and Shoaib Akhtar produced stellar performances.

In-form Yousuf hit his second century in five days and Shoaib took 6-16 but the match was marred by crowd trouble.

When fielding on the boundary Andre Adams and Daryl Tuffey each had stones thrown at them, which prompted McMillan to take his men off the field for 20 minutes.

"The first time it happened I was prepared to let it go, it might have been a one-off, but two overs later it happened again," McMillan told The New Zealand Herald.

"They were decent-sized rocks and if they hit a player on the full there would have been an injury.

"I said to the umpires 'this isn't good enough' and the match referee Mike Procter was very hot on it and acted promptly.

"Hopefully it won't be a problem again. It could be, but now a precedent's been set."

Sri Lanka's tour of England

England will perform well in their own conditions. We have a fight on our hands against them, but we do have some experienced players such as Aravinda (De Silva) and Hashan (Tillakartne) and now have a very good side that includes some excellent fast bowlers,” said Sri Lankan captain Jayasuriya.

“I am very worried about Murali Muttiah Muralitharan, missing him on the early part of England tour," Jayasuriya continued.

"It's going to be a very tough tour and to not have Murali and Dilhara Fernando is a major blow. There is now a lot of responsibility on the other fast bowlers to perform well in their absence.”
