4th day of first Test at Georgetown, India vs West Indies
** Rahul Dravid's unbeaten 144 was his 10th hundred of his career in 56
matches. It was also his 6th hundred in 28 away Test matches. Playing in his
161st first-class match he also registered his 34th hundred.
** It was his first Test hundred against the West Indies, bettering his
previous best of 92 made at this very ground in April 1997. Incidentally the
last three figure score against this team by an Indian was the 201 by Navjot
Singh Sidhu at Port of Spain in March 1997.
** Meanwhile, Dravid became the only second Indian batsman to register a
hundred at this ground. Sunil Gavaskar, the only other, has two - 116 in
March 1971 and an unbeaten 147 in April 1983.
** Dravid's unbeaten 144 was the highest by a number five Indian batsman
against the West Indies obliterating the 130 by Polly Umrigar at Port of
Spain in January 1953.
** It was also the highest by a visiting batsman at this venue at number
five eclipsing the previous highest of 124 runs by Australian Craig Serjeant
in April 1978.
** The 119 run partnership between Dravid and VVS Laxman for the fifth
wicket was their only second three figure partnership in Tests together
after their record breaking effort of 376 runs also for the same wicket
against Australia at Calcutta in March 2001.
** The unbeaten partnership of 120 runs between Dravid and Sarandeep Singh
was India's best for the 8th wicket against the West Indies bettering the
previous best of 107 runs between Yashpal Sharma and Balwinder Singh Sandhu
at Kingston in February 1983.
** The pair also became the first to post a three-figure stand for the 8th
wicket at this venue. The previous best was the 99 between West Indians John
Holt and Clifford McWatt against England in February 1954. For the record,
India's previous best for this wicket at this venue was the 31 between Syed
Abid Ali and S Venkataraghavan in March 1971.
** Playing in his third Test match and his only second innings Sarandeep
Singh (39 not out) recorded his highest score of his short Test career. He
had made 4 in his only other innings, against England at Bangalore in
December last.
** Sarandeep who is playing in his 35th first-class match has four scores in
the fifties, with a highest of 94 he made in his previous match earlier this
month in the Duleep Trophy tournament for North Zone against Central Zone at
Indore. Incidentally he has a decent batting average of 31.00 in first-class
cricket.
