The Ashes Tour
England's chairman of selectors David Graveney ruled out the possibilities of sweeping changes to the side for the third Test. Graveney said it was important they assemble the right kind of bowling attack that will prevent the tourists from piling up big first innings totals. Effective support for Darren Gough and Andy Caddick have been sadly lacking. With Ashley Giles, Dominic Cork and Craig White unimpressive, Matthew Hoggard, Chris Silverwood, Alex Tudor and Martin Bicknell could come into reckoning for a place in the side. Meanwhile former Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee has suggested that England should be looking for a younger player instead of veteran Alec Stewart. In the last ten Test matches Stewart has made just 416 runs at a batting average of 26.00. 
Coca-Cola Triangular in Sri Lanka The two men who interrupted play for a short duration during India's innings in the third match of the triangular series between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo on Sunday have been arrested. The men who were holding up anti-government banners and disrupted play for about three minutes have been charged with criminal trespass. They were later on let off on a bail of 20,000 Sri Lankan rupees. The men claimed they had nothing against the cricketers and were only protesting the "dictatorial" action of the president in closing down parliament. Meanwhile a Sri Lankan police officer made a ridiculous statement that the Indians lost the match because the demonstration.

Zimbabwe's Australian coach Carl Rackemann has agreed to stay on as the country's coach for another three months. Rackemann has asked the Zimbabwe Cricket Union (ZCU) to be relieved at the end of the series against West Indies. He however will stay on for the South African and England tours scheduled for September. Rackerman says he has business interests in Brisbane that called for his attention and hence had asked to be relieved from the post. Meanwhile the ZCU have approached former Australian batsman and coach Geoff Marsh and former Australian wicket-keeper and later New Zealand coach Steve Rixon so that one of them would agree and accept Rackemann's position. Pakistani all rounder Shahid Afridi helped his county Leicestershire win over Kent in a Division I clash. Afridi blasted a quick fire 70 of 32 balls and claimed a couple of crucial wickets to take his team to victory. Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar is recovering slowly but steadily in Mumbai. A CT scan was done on the batsman and he has been advised rest for as much as possible. The doctors have also examined Tendulkar for his back problems. It is likely that he could miss the first Test of the series against Sri Lanka that follows the ongoing one-day triangular. The secretary of Sri Lanka's interim committee and former pace bowler Asantha De Mel met former ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya in Calcutta yesterday. The meeting was held to chalk out Sri Lanka's role in the Asian Cricket Programme of the Asian Cricket Federation (ACF) of which Dalmiya is the chairman. The Sri Lankan sports minister Lakshman Kiriella was also scheduled to attend but could not because of the volatile political situation in his country.
Current Ranji Trophy holders Baroda and last year's holders Mumbai will be touring Kenya to play a triangular tournament also featuring the hosts from September 10-24. Mumbai will also be playing a three-day match against Kenya. The teams are making the tour on the invitation of the Kenyan Cricket Association. Kenya had invited Mumbai last year as well but the tour was cancelled due to non-availability of star batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who was busy with the Indian team's conditioning camp for the ICC Knockout tournament. Surrey and England middle order batsman Graham Thorpe has been ruled out of the third Test to be played at Trent Bridge next week. Thorpe who was hit by a ball from Brett Lee during the Lord's Test had suffered a fracture and as result is likely to be out of action for at least three weeks. He hopes to be fit in time for the fourth Test at Headingley, Leeds that begins on August 16.
Banned South African skipper Hansie Cronje has denied reports appearing in the media that he has 19 secret bank accounts with undisclosed sums of money. Cronje says all his accounts were submitted before the King Commission. Cronje had agreed to be completely transparent to the Commission in return for amnesty from prosecution. The findings of the commission proved inconclusive and Cronje has been denied amnesty. Cronje however insists he has entrusted all details of his finances to the commission. A report had claimed 120 payments totalling £890,000 were paid into Cronje's accounts during his time as captain from 1995 to 2000. However Cronje told the inquiry commission he had received less than £100,000.
England's domestic wonder Graeme Hick renewed his contract with his county Worcestershire. Hick who signed a three year contract with the county has scored more than 32,000 first class runs and has over 100 centuries to his credit.
