The Ashes Test series
Australia will field the same team at Lord's that won the first Test at Birmingham. Fast bowler Brett Lee has skipper Steve Waugh's confidence despite an ordinary first Test performance. Damien Fleming's eight wickets against Somerset were not good enough to win him a place in the side. Waugh's decision to go with Lee was due to the inability of the English batsmen to cope with real pace.

England has released Usman Afzaal from their squad so that he could play for his county Nottinghamshire. His release indicates the return of Graham Thorpe and Mark Ramprakash to the side.

The top priority for the new chief executive of the ICC Malcolm Speed is improving player behaviour on the field. The former Australian Cricket Board chairman has pledged to clamp down on player's discipline. Speed has already sent letters to the captain of every Test playing nation asking for their support in upholding the standards of conduct. He has also contacted match referees and umpires urging them to take a tougher line in disciplining players who breach the Code of Conduct. He wants them to issue bans instead of dispensing fines and suspended sentences.
