ICC appoints executive search firm to find new CEO
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Russell Reynolds Associates, one of the world’s leading executive search firms, to find a successor for current Chief Executive David Richards. Mr Richards, Chief Executive for the last seven years, is planning to leave the ICC by September 2001.
Appointment of the new CEO is being overseen by the ICC’s Organisation and Governance Review Committee, chaired by New Zealand’s Sir John Anderson and comprising representatives from ICC member countries.
Commenting on their role in the selection process, Bob Chalmers, a managing director at Russell Reynolds Associates said: "Our objective is clear: to find the best person for the job, wherever they are based, whatever they are currently doing.
"To ensure that we approach this in the best possible way, we will contact ICC directors to seek their input. In particular, we want their views on the qualities and personal skills required of the Chief Executive, and, of course, we’d be keen to hear of any specific names they would like to suggest."
The firm is also identifying high calibre individuals within other professional sports bodies and the world of business.
ICC President Malcolm Gray said: "During David Richards’ tenure, the ICC has developed into a high profile, international sporting organisation. Going forward, the pace of change is likely to increase and the new appointee will be responsible for championing the best interests of cricket around the globe in this dynamic environment.
"The new Chief Executive will need to show strong leadership in taking decisive action for the betterment of the sport around the world. We are therefore determined that the search should be exhaustive and far ranging to ensure that the right appointment is made."
Russell Reynolds Associates has a pre-eminent global sports practice with offices in 35 countries and was appointed following a competitive pitch process.
