Make information security policy, warns Neville BalsaraVijay Shankar at Pragati MaidanN&N Systems CEO Neville Balsara delivered the third track on data and security. He said IT security has to be looked at from both the strategic and tactical angles. IT security is not just about averting major frauds. Protection of IT equipment, computers, modems, printers, etc. involve planning for damages arising out of events like spillage of water over the equipment too. All this forms a part of an IT security strategy. Information security is about enabling secrecy, integrity and availability of information. Access control at the system and data level is an important element. The accuracy, integrity and authenticity of information are major concerns. Availability of information as opposed to denial of service must be assured. The security aspect derives importance because information becomes a major asset. Information is in fact the single most precious commodity in business, Balsara said. The problem of lower security often results from trying to make the technology easier for the user. Information security cannot be solved just by a product, there has to be a defined policy for ensuring security, he explained. |
