All major ports and important cities to be interlinked with expressways: Thambi DuraiThe Centre will embark on a Rs 200 billion port-to-port roadlink programme covering all the major ports and important cities in the country, according to Union Surface Transport Minister M Thambi Durai. Addressing the media in Bombay, the minister said a national expressway authority would be set up for executing the project and the nationwide network's future operations. He said the expressways will cover a vast network -- Bombay-Ahmedabad-Kandla-Delhi-Calcutta- Paradeep-Vizag-Madras-Tuticorin-Cochin-Mangalore- Bombay. All these cities will be further connected to other major cities and satellite towns to ensure speedy traffic. Road infrastructure to handle incoming and outgoing cargo will be given a thrust by the government, he said. He said a Cabinet note has been prepared in this regard. UNI
