India, EU to include trade, financial issues in economic dialogueIndia and the European Union today agreed on the need for cooperation in economic affairs. A joint statement issued on the occasion of the EU-India ministerial troika meeting in New Delhi said the economic dialogue should encompass trade and financial matters. It was also agreed to continue consultations on various bilateral and multilateral issues. The next ministerial meeting is to be held in the second half of 1999. The EU delegation was led by Austrian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Benita Ferrero-Waldner, who represents the presidency of the troika. The presidency was accompanied by Gunther Verheugen, minister of state for foreign affairs, Germany, and and his British counterpart Derek Fatchett. The European Commission was represented by vice-president Manuel Marian. The Indian delegation was led by Minister of State for External Affairs Vasundhara Raje and included Foreign Secretary K Raghunath and other senior officials. The ministers discussed the global financial crisis as well as developments in Asia and Europe. UNI |
